Welcome to 2017 – From my Favourite Place on Earth

Hello! Welcome to my first blog post for 2017 – the year I’m hoping to give a lot more love to this little online space. My family and I have just returned from our annual pilgrimage to our favourite place on earth – Moreton Island. Moreton is amazing for so many reasons – it’s relatively inexpensive with lots of different styles of accommodation options, it’s stunningly beautiful and there are heaps of things to do (or not, the choice is yours!) BC (before children), we’d load up the 4WD with every camping accessory you can imagine and rough it on the beach. These days we go for the Glamping tents at Castaways. These are permanent tents set up with proper beds (comfortable, and no air beds going flat during the night!) and a full en suite with hot water. It really is camping done right. There are fridges for your food and drinks and a full communal kitchen and eating area, so you can pack light.   My children love camping and love the beach – so to say we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves would be an enormous understatement! Tell me, where is your favourite place on earth? Are you a happy camper? Have you discovered Moreton Island? Lily...

Reformer Pilates + La Sculpte

Hi, how are you? No really – how do you feel? How does your body feel? Do you have enough energy? Do you feel like, well, yourself? About this time last year I asked myself those questions, and when I wasn’t happy with my answers I knew I needed to make a change. I decided to try reformer pilates at Rebalance Pilates and Yoga and I’ve loved it so much that almost a year in, I’m still regularly going two to three times a week. Yes, it’s hard to fit in around family, work and general life stuff. Yes, it is an addition to the family budget. But here’s my top 3 reasons why it’s so worth it for me: I have so much more flexibility to bend up and down from the floor to play with my children. I’m physically stronger and my mind is more calm and centred. I’ve lost around 8kg (give or take – it is the silly season after all!). La Sculpte recently sent me a couple of pieces from their activewear range to try. I chose the Cross Back Tee in purple ($32.99) and the Shaping Printed Full Length Tight ($59.99). I couldn’t go past the back of this tee for a cute point of difference, and the ‘shaping’ part of the tights really sculpts the tummy. I’ve worn a lot of different activewear labels in my time – from the really expensive to the really inexpensive – and La Sculpte for me rates highly in terms of quality and affordability. These pieces are comfortable, breathable and under $100 for the set. Is it time you tried reformer...

How To Wear: Ankle Boots

We are well and truly into ankle boot season now. Have you embraced this trend? Do you have a pair of ankle boots in your wardrobe, but unsure how to style them? So many women I speak to own at least one pair of ankle boots, or want to, but feel a bit lost with how to wear them without looking cut off at the ankles, and therefore shorter. I find ankle boots to be really comfortable to wear, a little edgy and extremely versatile, and I wear them right through Autumn, Winter and Spring. How? Here’s a few guidelines:           Wearing Ankle Boots With a Skirt or Dress When keeping your legs bare, wear ankle boots that are a neutral shade such as beige, tan or brown. Ankle boots look fantastic with tights of the same colour – black tights with black boots for example – elongate your legs for a streamlined look. Play around with different heel heights and boot lengths – these will suit (or not) depending on your height, and the length of your skirt or dress. Wearing Ankle Boots With Pants Skinny jeans, jeggings or pants that are tapered at your ankle should be worn tucked into your boots. Wearing leggings? Always, always, always tuck them in. When you’re wearing pants that are a looser style, such as boot cut or boyfriend jeans, cuff your pants so you see a little skin in between your pants and your boots. This draws the eye down to the thinnest part of your leg for a flattering, slimming look.   Whether you’re wearing a dress or...

Basics: The Smoothing Top

Last week I introduced you to Intimo’s convertible black dress that is now pretty much all sold out (except in the Medium size, so let me know ASAP if you’d like to order!). But don’t worry if you missed out this time – there’ll be another drop of these in July. This week it’s all about the Smoothing Top ($95). Ladies, kiss goodbye to any lumps and bumps you might have – the double layering of fabric in the front panel of this top smooths them all away! I love this top as a layering piece, especially in the cooler months of the year. It’s perfect for wearing underneath vests, cardigans, jackets, blazers… As with every Intimo product, this top is of the highest quality. Not only will it last forever, but you’ll be able to wear it to work, play – everywhere. Plus, it’s always available in lots of different colours – black, white, chestnut, desert rose, silver lake blue, orchid pink and eggshell blue. Need to make one of these tops yours? You can place your order with me by emailing me at: lily.thestylishteacher@gmail.com with your phone number so we can arrange a time to have a chat. Lily...

THE Black Dress

• Edit: the dress below has been HUGELY popular and is now sold out in size Small. It is, however, still available in sizes M (10-12), L (14-16) and XL. You can order this dress from me (with a 5% discount!) but only if you’re quick! • And now, back to regular programming… I’m having a mid-term slump. You know how I can tell? Not only am I tired and a bit (OK, a lot) grumpy, but I’m getting lazy with my dressing. At the moment I don’t have the patience for fluffing around with separate pieces, layering, accessorising etc etc. Don’t worry, it’s a passing phase that I come in and out of fairly regularly with the busyness of life. The answer? Simple dressing. Because I still want (and need) to look polished for work, and let’s face it – we all feel better when we look better. The one piece I always fall back on when I don’t want to think about what to wear? The black dress of course! But there’s an exciting new player in the black dress game – The Convertible Dress from Intimo! The convertible nature of this dress means you can wear it in heaps of different ways: Off the shoulders (as pictured above) One shouldered (think toga style) Strapless and tied at the waist (perfect for showing off or creating a waist) Strapless with the sleeves tucked in (creating faux pockets; perfect for disguising ample thighs) Halter style by tying the sleeves behind the neck (this shortens the length of the dress; perfect for showing off those pins) But the best part...
