The Mother’s Day (Ethical) Gift Guide

What’s on your wish list for Mother’s Day this year? Apart from the obligatory handmade craft from the kids, I mean (which we love by the way 😉). I don’t usually put in requests, but this year I actually do need a new dressing gown. My usual go-to place for sleepwear? Peter Alexander. But, I did a little research into this brand and found that they don’t actually do enough to protect the rights of the workers in their supply chain. Baptist World Aid’s ethical fashion guide rates Peter Alexander overall as a C+, which I suppose technically is a pass grade but looking further into this rating shows they score a D for ‘Worker Enpowerment’. Not cool. Suffice to say, they won’t be getting my business anymore. If you, like me, want to support ethical brands – I am here to help with a range of gifts that you’ll love and love knowing your money is well spent. You can click the images to check out more details too. 1. I’ve been hinting pretty hard for this dressing gown! 2. The draping and cut of this dress is super flattering – an easy wear piece to throw on and go, or add some leggings during the cooler months. 3. Mmmm… chocolate and strawberries! 4. I have one of these belts in neon pink – I love it! 5. Perfect for both indoor and outdoor use. Fill it with some herbs or a lovely plant. 6. Still not sure? Flowers are always the answer! And the best place to get flowers in Brisbane is from the gorgeous ladies at Coddle and Co....

Fashion Revolution Week – What’s it all About?

Fashion Revolution Week – have you heard of it before? I hadn’t, until a few weeks ago. I’m actually not sure how I didn’t know about until now, but I’m so glad I stumbled across it! You see, for a while now I’ve been thinking more about what I wear. I’m going to write more about this in another post, but to keep a long story short (for now), until recently price, style and supporting local businesses have been all I’ve considered. Fashion Revolution Week (beginning April 24 – the anniversary of the Rana Plaza building collapse) asks #whomademyclothes and got me thinking about the people behind the labels. So, I did some research and found some amazing brands who are manufacturing their clothes in Brisbane. I contacted them and asked if I could meet them and have a look at where they make our clothes. I have to say, I was blown away by the generosity they all showed me. To be welcomed so warmly into studios and factories left me feeling ever so grateful and even more determined to purchase my clothes more mindfully. Let me tell you a little about each of the brands I covered for Fashion Revolution Week. 1. Active Truth: this label started one year ago by two Brisbane friends – Nadia and Stevie. I had heard of this brand but didn’t realise their factory was in Brendale! They manufacture high quality tights and tops like this… 2. Rant Clothing: this Brisbane sustainable and ethical label began in 2003 by designer Sarah Garrett-Hodoniczky. Two collections are produced each year with an emphasis on longevity and quality. ...

Birdsnest Capsule: Play Date to Date Night

Capsule wardrobes are really having a moment right now. What I’m loving most about them is the inclusion of versatile wardrobe pieces that can be worn in different ways and in different contexts. If you’ve been following my blog for a while, you’ll know that I’ve taken long service leave from my teaching position and extended it for all of 2017. Next year my youngest is due to start prep and I am thoroughly enjoying spending this year with her and her friends. When the gorgeous girls from Birdsnest invited me to create a capsule wardrobe for my current lifestyle I jumped at the chance. I’ve been a customer of theirs for years and have always found their quality and service to be fantastic. I’ve chosen six pieces – one dress, two pairs of pants (jeggings and culottes), two tops (camisole and tee) and a light lace coverup – with a neutral colour palette, perfect for adding tan accessories to or even adding bright colours if you like. The V Neck Shift Dress $79.95 Wild Tribe Stitched Jeggings $129.95 The Wide Leg Cropped Trouser $99.95 Boho Bird Runaway Top $39.95 Boho Bird Walking on Clouds Tee $49.95 Boho Bird Spring Day Throw $89.95 I’m looking forward to sharing lots of different outfit combinations from my capsule with you this week! Welcome to 2017 – From my Favourite Place on Earth

Hello! Welcome to my first blog post for 2017 – the year I’m hoping to give a lot more love to this little online space. My family and I have just returned from our annual pilgrimage to our favourite place on earth – Moreton Island. Moreton is amazing for so many reasons – it’s relatively inexpensive with lots of different styles of accommodation options, it’s stunningly beautiful and there are heaps of things to do (or not, the choice is yours!) BC (before children), we’d load up the 4WD with every camping accessory you can imagine and rough it on the beach. These days we go for the Glamping tents at Castaways. These are permanent tents set up with proper beds (comfortable, and no air beds going flat during the night!) and a full en suite with hot water. It really is camping done right. There are fridges for your food and drinks and a full communal kitchen and eating area, so you can pack light.   My children love camping and love the beach – so to say we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves would be an enormous understatement! Tell me, where is your favourite place on earth? Are you a happy camper? Have you discovered Moreton Island? Lily...
