Fashion Revolution Week – What’s it all About?

Fashion Revolution Week – have you heard of it before? I hadn’t, until a few weeks ago. I’m actually not sure how I didn’t know about until now, but I’m so glad I stumbled across it! You see, for a while now I’ve been thinking more about what I wear. I’m going to write more about this in another post, but to keep a long story short (for now), until recently price, style and supporting local businesses have been all I’ve considered. Fashion Revolution Week (beginning April 24 – the anniversary of the Rana Plaza building collapse) asks #whomademyclothes and got me thinking about the people behind the labels. So, I did some research and found some amazing brands who are manufacturing their clothes in Brisbane. I contacted them and asked if I could meet them and have a look at where they make our clothes. I have to say, I was blown away by the generosity they all showed me. To be welcomed so warmly into studios and factories left me feeling ever so grateful and even more determined to purchase my clothes more mindfully. Let me tell you a little about each of the brands I covered for Fashion Revolution Week. 1. Active Truth: this label started one year ago by two Brisbane friends – Nadia and Stevie. I had heard of this brand but didn’t realise their factory was in Brendale! They manufacture high quality tights and tops like this… 2. Rant Clothing: this Brisbane sustainable and ethical label began in 2003 by designer Sarah Garrett-Hodoniczky.
