We are well and truly into ankle boot season now. Have you embraced this trend? Do you have a pair of ankle boots in your wardrobe, but unsure how to style them? So many women I speak to own at least one pair of ankle boots, or want to, but feel a bit lost with how to wear them without looking cut off at the ankles, and therefore shorter.

I find ankle boots to be really comfortable to wear, a little edgy and extremely versatile, and I wear them right through Autumn, Winter and Spring. How? Here’s a few guidelines:

Wearing Ankle Boots With a Skirt or Dress

When keeping your legs bare, wear ankle boots that are a neutral shade such as beige, tan or brown.

Ankle boots look fantastic with tights of the same colour – black tights with black boots for example – elongate your legs for a streamlined look.

Play around with different heel heights and boot lengths – these will suit (or not) depending on your height, and the length of your skirt or dress.

Wearing Ankle Boots With Pants

Skinny jeans, jeggings or pants that are tapered at your ankle should be worn tucked into your boots.

Wearing leggings? Always, always, always tuck them in.

When you’re wearing pants that are a looser style, such as boot cut or boyfriend jeans, cuff your pants so you see a little skin in between your pants and your boots. This draws the eye down to the thinnest part of your leg for a flattering, slimming look.

Whether you’re wearing a dress or pants, the idea with all of these guidelines is to ensure you can see all of the ankle boot.

Here are some of my favourite ankle boots in store (and online) from Windsor Smith right now…

So, how do you wear your ankle boots?
